A foundation is placed underneath the frost line and the walls are then applied to the rim. The footing at the base of the foundation is wider than the wall, providing extra protection. A T-shaped base is placed and permitted to heal; second, the walls are built; and finally, the concrete is poured between the walls.   In summary: T-shaped foundations are used in areas where the ground freezes. First, the footing is placed. Second, the walls are constructed and poured. Lastly, the slab is placed. Slab-on-grade foundation A slab, as the name implies, is a continuous layer of concrete, several inches thick. The concrete is poured thicker at the bottom, creating an integral footing; the thickened layer is reinforced by reinforcing rods. For boost drainage, the slab usually lies on a crushed gravel bed. Casting a loop of wire into the concrete eliminates the risk of cracking. For places where the ground does not freeze, a grade slab is ideal but it can also be fitted with insulation to keep it from being damaged by the frost heaves. The insulation retains under the bases heat from the structure in the ground and avoids loss of heat from the bottom of the slab. This heat holds the ground temperature above zero at the footings. What Is Reinforced Concrete? Reinforced concrete (RC) (also known as reinforced cement concrete or RCC) is a construction material in which reinforcement with higher tensile strength or ductility counteracts the comparatively low tensile strength and ductility of the concrete. Usually, but not always, the reinforcement is steel reinforcement bars (rebar) and is typically passively inserted in the concrete until the concrete sets. Adding Base Color Several different types of buildings and structural elements may be built with reinforced concrete including slabs, walls, beams, columns, supports, frames, and more. Reinforced concrete can be known as prefabricated concrete or cast-in-place. The design and implementation of the most effective floor system is important for the construction of optimum building structures. Small improvements in the design of a floor system can have a huge effect on the cost of materials, schedule of construction, overall power, running costs, occupancy rates, and building end usage. Without reinforcement, it would not be possible to build new buildings with concrete material. Through concrete, reinforced structures are designed in such a way that the two components together withstand the forces applied. The concrete’s compressive strength and steel’s tensile strength create a strong bond to withstand certain stresses over a long time. In most building projects, plain concrete is not suitable, since it can not easily withstand the stresses produced by vibrations, wind, or other forces. How is Reinforcement essential in Concrete? One big downside of concrete is its very low tensile strength, which is virtually reached at low load speeds. This results in the cracking of the concrete surfaces which in effect lead to aesthetic problems (large deflection of beams or slabs) for the maximum state of serviceability as well as structural integrity problems at the ultimate maximum. On the other side, under stress and compression, reinforced steel has a very high tensile resistance and asymmetrical structure constitutive law. Nevertheless, buckling causes a rebar alone that is subjected to compression to fail prematurely. For this reason, the use of reinforcement in an RC section leads to effective structural behavior as reinforcing steelworks effectively under tension and concrete works effectively under compression, and confines reinforcement of compression. Figure 1 shows the continuous beam bending moment diagram under vertical loads as well as the positions where reinforcing steel should be mounted. Reinforced Concrete Production Concrete consists of a combination of cement and stone aggregates, forming a solid framework with the addition of water. Once embedded in concrete, steel with a high tensile strength, the composite material can withstand compression, bending, and tensile stresses. Such a material can be used to make any size and shape, for construction use. The key advantage of reinforced concrete is the similarity of its thermal expansion coefficient to that of steel, thus reducing the internal stresses caused due to variability in thermal expansion or contraction. Furthermore, as the cement paste is hardened within the concrete it corresponds to the surface properties of the steel, allowing the stresses to be transferred effectively between the two materials. The roughening of steel bars strengthens the seamless qualities between the steel and concrete. All About Stamped Concrete Stamped concrete is patterned and/or textured or embossed concrete to imitate brick, slate, flagstone, stone, tile, wood, and other designs and textures. For patios, sidewalks, driveways, pool decks, and interior walls, stamped concrete is widely used. Stamped concrete’s ability to mimic other building materials makes stamped concrete a less costly alternative to using other traditional materials like stone, slate or brick. For stamped concrete, there are three procedures that distinguish it from other concrete procedures; applying a base color, adding an accent color, and stamping a pattern into the concrete. Such three methods provide a similar color and form to the natural building material for stamped concrete. It’s also longer-lasting than paved stone, and it still looks like it. Adding Base Color The primary color used in stamped concrete is the base color. To reflect the color of the natural building material, the base color is selected. Through applying a color hardener to the concrete, the base color is formed. Color hardener is a pigment used in the concrete dyeing process.  One of two methods can be used to add the paint hardener; integral color or cast-on pigment. Integral paint is the process in which the base color is used for the entire volume of concrete. When applying the color hardener to the concrete truck, the whole volume of concrete is colored, causing all the concrete in the truck to be colored. Cast-on color is the procedure in which the base color is colored on the concrete surface. The concrete surface is colored by spreading the hardener on the wet concrete surface and floating the substance into the liquid concrete’s top layer.  There are many ways in which concrete can be colored; paint hardener, essential liquid or powder, acid stains to name a few. The method of integrally coloring the concrete provides the advantage of coloring the entire volume; however, as with the use of paint hardener, the strength of the surface is not improved. Dry shake color hardener is another popular way to color concrete. You broadcast the hardener on the concrete as soon as it is floated for the first time. After letting the bleed water soak into the hardener you float and trowel it in. This method only covers the surface about 3/16 of an inch but it gives the concrete surface a longer wear life. Adding Accent Color The color of the accent is the secondary color used in concrete stamped. The secondary color is used in the stamped concrete to create texture and to show additional building materials (e.g. grout). By applying color release to the concrete, the accent color is produced. Color release has two functions-1) it is a dye used to color the concrete and 2) it is a non-adhesive to keep concrete stamps from sticking to the concrete. The color release can be applied in one of two procedures based on the two forms in which it is produced: powdered (cast-on color release consisting of calcium-releasing powders repelling water); or liquid-a light aromatic-based solvent, spray-on color release. Cast-on color release is a procedure where the release of the powder color is applied by spreading the color release on the concrete surface before stamping the concrete. Concrete Pouring and Curing Mix enough concrete to finish the wall in one go. Purchase concrete mix and pour it into a mixer using a hose or a ramp. Follow the manufacturer’s directions for adding water and stirring the concrete. The consistency of good concrete is gray and consistent. Starting at the end of the wall, pour the concrete into layers. Using a chute or hose linked to the mixer, pour the concrete straight into the wood form. Move back and forth from one end of the wall to the other until the concrete is as high as you want the wall to be. As you work, remove the spacers to prevent cracks from forming in your project. Allowing them to remain will result in holes between layers of concrete that could weaken its stability over time! Using a screed or similar tool, smooth out the concrete. Climb a ladder and use the top of the form you constructed to level out the concrete. Use a float or a trowel if you can’t get a screed up there. The last step is to cover the concrete and allow it time for curing. Use water-resistant materials like burlap or straw; these will help protect your project from rain. To remove the forms, you’ll need to cut them and then pull these shapes away from your concrete. Be careful when removing wire ties because it has not yet hardened!
